In the work of God, what we need for it to be successful is none other than the means of God. And we are very fortunate indeed because God already provided and continues to provide the most modern tool or technology which is needed for the effective global evangelism in the End-Time. This technology, which comes from God, has proven effective ever since God chose Moses to lead His people.

This “technology” is none other than prayer and fasting. When Moses faced the great and difficult responsibility of leading Egypt, he fasted for 40 days. This pattern which Moses started was followed by the people whom God used after Moses. Isaiah, Daniel, even Jesus Christ, who is the first and primary exponent of evangelism in the New Testament, fasted before they began their ministries. The apostles of Christ – Paul and Barnabas, even the Goodman of the House – also fasted.

Thinking like Christ

They fasted because they wanted to submerge their minds with the mind of Christ, because it is only when an individual has the mind of Christ that he or she can perform mighty things for God. Christians normally have the mind of Christ, but the “amount of Christ-ness” in our minds is sometimes inadequate to push us to do the works of God. What we need to do to think more like Christ is to cleanse our minds of the carnal and worldly things – and this is the “new man”.

“And have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”-Colossians 3:10 (NIV)

When we have put on the new self, we must enrich this by immersing ourselves in the Word of God, just as the Bereans did (Acts 17:11). We must read and learn to be proficient in the Word of God as taught by His sent ones.

Put Away Fear

Fear can hinder the work of God. When we are afraid to be hungry, we will not able to fast. But when we realize that the work of God is the sustenance of our spiritual health, we will fast because it is necessary for the growth of our spiritual existence – it is necessary for the growth of evangelism. When we learn to sacrifice for God, starting with fasting, we will see the mighty works of God in everything that He makes us do. We will see the sheep who are still not in the fold ushered into the Church and we will witness the activities in the church.
