The Holy Scripture clearly declares who our Lord Jesus really is. He is Christ, the One who came to the world. He was the One who descended from heaven according to

John 8:23 – “And He said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.”

Thus, our Lord Jesus Christ is not really a citizen of this world. He descended from heaven. He Himself stated that He came from Heaven.

John 3:13 – “No one has ascended to heaven but he who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.”

Here, He used His title as the Son of Man. The “Son of Man,” he said, is from heaven and came to earth.

The question would be: When Christ was still in heaven, what was His nature before He came to earth? Before He took the form of man, what was His nature or form?

John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Here is the explanation as to from where is our Lord Jesus Christ. Why do we know that the Word whom God was with was actually our Lord Jesus Christ?

John 1:14 – “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Thus, this Word whose beginning was with God, and is God, took the form of man. And John said that they saw the glory, the glory like that of the Begotten Son of God. Who is the Begotten Son of God?

John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.”

Therefore, the given begotten Son, who was the Word at first and God being the Son of the Father, took a human form. Thus, Christ is the begotten Son of God. Is there any other begotten son of God? None. There is only one Begotten Son of God. What was He before taking a human form? He is God. Paul declares,

Philippians 2:5-8 – “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in the appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”

Notice in the King James Version, stated in verses 5 and 6

“who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:”

In amplified version:

“Who, although being essentially one with God and in the Form of God possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God a God, did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped retained,”

And in New American version:

“Who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.”

In New international version:

“Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men, and being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death even death on a cross!”

We understand that the Lord only took a form to be like human beings.

Stated in the Filipino translation

“kundi bagkus hinubad niya ito, at nag anyong alipin, na nakitulad sa mga tao.”

Thus, He is God, and in being God, He is equal to the Father. He was sent by the Father, took the form of man, and that’s when we have known Him being man. Therefore, this Christ who has lived on earth is God who took a human form. Is He the Father? No. He is the begotten Son of the Father. And in being the only Son of God, He has all the characteristics of God, and by these features, Christ is God. He has all the power.

May we be enlightened by the truth that the One who came to earth was the begotten Son of God, that in the beginning, Christ was with the Father in the nature of being God and He just took the form of man.

May we know Him so we may worship and serve Him. There shall God bless us!
