Perfection is defined as the “freedom from fault or defect; flawlessness, the unsurpassable degree of accuracy or excellence or the quality or state of being saintly.” James 3:2 gives perfection its biblical meaning.

“We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.”

A perfect man will no longer be hindered. He can conquer the world, because he can overcome his mind, body and feelings. God commanded His followers to be perfect according to Matthew 5:48,

“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

They must try their best to attain perfection through maturity. When we received salvation we were born into the family of God. We were added to the Church and we became His children. In John 1:12-13,

“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God children not born of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”

We were then likened to babies. 1 Peter 2:2,

“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.”

We were taught and we were nursed.

“Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone.” -1 Peter 2:7

These were made in order for us to grow. Spiritual growth could be found only in the church. This is the training ground for our perfection. Within are the people responsible for our perfection through God’s word. They are our teachers, our coaches, our trainers and nurses.

“But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cheristeth her children.” – 1 Thesalonians 2:7

They are the gifted people who teach the believers in the Church. According to Ephesians 4:11,

“It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers.”

The Sent ones of God are in the Church. The people charged to teach and carry out the ways to perfection are the people who are deeply concerned with how to make us grow into maturity. The apostles in the early church exemplified the sympathy for the church perfection.

“For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.” – Acts 20:27

Apostle Paul served God in the Church, Acts 24:14 says,

“However, I admit that I worship the God of our fathers as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that agrees with the Law and that is written in the Prophets.”

A perfect man can never be hindered. Because of this, everybody inside the church should be desiring and working for perfection. This is important because those who were saved will now help bring salvation to others. Perfection entails our physical, mental and emotional growth. If we possess this, we will be capable to do the work of salvation.

“Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” -Ephesians 4:13

“To prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” -Ephesians 4:12

So, the Church is the place of perfection. It is also in the Church that we can avail of their counsel. The Church is the repository of truth,

“If I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the Church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.” -1 Timothy 3:15

The truth of God’s Words are perfectly taught in the Church. Through the gifted men of God, firstly the apostles down to the teachers.

Without these people inside the church, we would go on interpreting the Bible privately resulting in misunderstanding, wrong interpretation, wrong explanation and wrong conclusion. The Church is where the discipline of God is exercised. For example, when somebody is erring in faith and they do not obey, the Bible tells us what to do. According to Titus 3:10,

“Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him.”

Problems of brethren are also solved in the Church. In Matthew 18:17-19 says,

“If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.”

When disobedient, children are disciplined in the Church, 1 Corinthians 5:13,

“But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.”

The Church is like a sheep-fold, where the sheep are being preserved. Like Jesus said in Matthew 16:18,“that the gates of hell shall not prevail.” Satan cannot prevail against Christ and the Church. In this life, there is a war of faith. That faith is only obtained in the Church through hearing and hearing the Word of God. It is the source of faith, Romans 10:17. Preaching the Word of God is not done by anybody who is not recommended by God.

“For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.” -2 Corinthians 10:18

Who is recommended by God? The apostles down to the teachers. So, the Church is the place of perfection.

“Because of this, God in his wisdom said, I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.” – Luke 11:49

The ministry of the gifted persons in the Church is to present the people of God to Christ as perfect. Colossians 1:28,

“We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.”

So in the second coming of Christ, He will meet the Church, perfect as he wanted it to be. Ephesians 5:27,

“And to present her to himself as a radiant Church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.”

The Goodman of the House, a leader and an apostle has the authority in the Church (1 Corinthians 12:28).According to Christ, the Goodman of the House or Church’s steward will prepare His household, the church which is the place for perfection (Matthew 24:43).
